Who are you?

I'm Kristen Bruck! I’m a twenty-five-year-old graduate of Emerson College, where I majored in Writing, Literature, and Publishing (with a concentration in Publishing) and minored in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I’m from Long Island, NY, a short commute into Manhattan. I live with my parents and my precious puppy, Rosie.

I’m a Scorpio sun, Taurus moon, Gemini rising, ENFJ, and Enneagram 4. Am I missing anything?

Why did you start this blog?

When I started this blog in May 2016, I wanted to document the growth of my personal style and add my voice to the fashion conversation. I grew up reading American Girl Magazine, Girl’s Life, Teen Vogue, and Seventeen. I’ve been talking about fashion and beauty since I started playing with Barbies.

The digital landscape has changed so much since I published my first blog post at eighteen years old. As I’ve gathered the tools I need to succeed, I must admit that I’ve created some pretty cool stuff across all the platforms The Clunkster has spanned.

Over time, this blog has evolved into a log of events in my life, beauty products I love, a virtual representation of my closet, and a collection of things I’m passionate about. I’ve developed my talent for makeup, attended fashion shows, and collaborated with brands I love.

One thing hasn’t changed, and I don’t think it ever will:  I feel my best in a head-to-toe look and my second best while I’m winding down for the night. No matter what I do, I want to continue learning, exploring my passions, and sharing them with others.

what do you want to be when you grow up?

I’m definitely a Jack-of-all-trades type of person. In the past, I’ve managed retail and assisted with e-commerce brands, but I can also proofread, copy edit, retouch photos, manage social media, design layout, style, take photos, etc. My dream job would be to work for a fashion or beauty brand in any or all of those capacities! Essentially, I want to spend all my time around people and brands who are always striving to do better. how did this blog get its name?

Back in the day, when I was a wee freshman in college, my friends and I left my teeny dorm room with two twin XL beds after chasing shots of $10 vodka with convenience store orange juice. We walked in on a film shoot in the hallway (which wasn’t abnormal at our school), and the director motioned for us to come quickly and quietly. However, I only saw the “come quickly” motion, and ran full speed down the hall. My friends tell me that the sound of my Ugg moccasins echoing down the tile hallway was the funniest sound in the world, and they started calling me The Clunkster. When I was looking for a name for my blog, I decided that this silly nickname actually encompasses my style: a little out there and hard to ignore. Very clunky, if you will.
