have a gay day!

Hello, cutie patooties of all genders and sexualities! Happy last week of Pride Month! This year was the first time I attended a Gay Pride Parade, and I had SO much fun.

For the most part, I kept my outfit pretty basic. I wore my jean shorts and denim jacket (love a good Canadian tuxedo) with a basic black tank and Converse. I really went ham with my makeup! I’m bisexual, so I decorated my face with the colors of our flag. I used pink eyeshadow on my lids, lined my eyes with purple eyeshadow, and wore bright blue lipstick. I wore my hair in two half-up-half-down pigtails, which looked hella cute, but gave me a nasty scalp sunburn!

I know Pride is a time for us to run through the streets and be proud of who we are, but let’s not forget the people who fought to get us to where we are today, like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, and the people whose lives have been taken because we haven’t come far enough yet. Go for it, hug your gay friends, but take some time to educate yourself on our history today.

Did you do anything fun for Pride? Let me know in the comments!

nyx total control drop foundation review!

Cruelty-Free, Beauty, Beauty ReviewKristenComment

Hello hello hello! I hope your week has been going well so far. I’m heading into a busy couple of weeks, but it’s a fun busy, which is nice. Since I graduated in December, it hasn’t set in that the end of the school year is quickly approaching for everyone else, and all ~those~ activities are happening. Wild.

I am so excited for this review! I’ve reviewed a couple foundations in the past and I’m usually annoyed with them. I felt like any foundation I used had something wrong with it and I was just waiting for the bottle to run out. But then! I saw the NYX rack at Target and rubbed some of NYX’s Total Control Drop Foundation on my wrist and loved it. It blended into my skin so well.

This is definitely a new favorite product of mine. This foundation checks all of my boxes (again, sounding like a Bachelor contestant). It’s cruelty-free, smells amazing, blends so well, lasts all day, and looks great on my face. I use the Light Ivory shade.

I think the only bad thing I could say about it is that it runs out pretty quickly, but that could also be because I always squeeze too much out of the dropper. I’ve never used a drop foundation before, and it was definitely an adventure. I love it, but it wasn’t horrible, aside from me possibly wasting a lot of foundation and making a mess sometimes. My Spatty doesn’t fit in the bottle, which makes me sad. There’s not a lot of ways to stretch it along without shaking it and hitting it on your hand a lot.

Overall though, I’m a really big fan of this foundation, and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something new. I’m not surprised, because everything I have from NYX is amazing. I just started using their primer, so I’ll have that review coming for you soon!

yes, another flannel

Outfit of the DayKristenComment

flannel (i have no clue i'm so sorry). shirt (i think it's armani?). leggings. boots. lipgloss (in cairo).

Hello my loves! Here’s an outfit I’ve been wearing a lot lately. I love it so much because it’s chill, comfy, and warm. I think it’s the perfect snowy day outfit because it keeps me warm, but lets me chill out and be comfy cozy. Essentially, I can feel curled up in front of my fireplace when I’m actually in a lecture that Emerson didn’t cancel!

I started with this plain, long-sleeved white shirt that used to be my cousin’s. It’s a little bit looser, and soooo comfortable. I wore it with my typical warm black leggings and one of my dad’s flannels he gave me a while ago. I love the color and pattern of this one, and it’s super soft! I typically wear this one with this shirt because they complement each other really well, and because they’re just so cozy together. It’s like an explosion of softness.

Last but not least, I wore my tan boots and my matching tan scarf, which I briefly lost in the Providence mall two weeks ago and cried until I found it outside Nordstrom. This super squishy, soft scarf is the cherry on top of this beautifully cozy ensemble.

I also love this look because it can be worn with really any hair and makeup since it’s so understated. Today I chose to let my hair down and went with a more natural makeup look, but I’ll also wear this outfit a lot on super lazy days with my hair in a bun and a bare face, and it still looks great!

Everyone has that one outfit that makes them feel warm and cozy even on the coldest, wettest days, and I’m so happy I got to share mine with you! How are you staying warm this winter? Let me know in the comments!

NYX Lipgloss

Beauty, Beauty Review, Cruelty-FreeKristenComment

A little while ago, as I’ve mentioned before, I went on a CVS haul and bought a bunch of random things that I’ve never tried before. I’ve only ever heard good things about NYX’s matte lipglosses, so I decided to give one a try!

What I’m Using: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (in Cairo)

I absolutely fell in love with this lipgloss. The last time I tried a matte formula, it was an absolute disaster, mostly because of the application. This lipgloss goes on so smoothly, it’s actually fun to apply. I adore the color. It really pulls everything together.

As far as lasting power, I think this does an okay job. The actual color stays on beautifully, but it does get kinda chappy eventually. It’s not drying though, which is great.

I really want to go buy a boatload of stuff from NYX. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried from them! I want to get more of these lipglosses in different colors.

Under Eye Concealer Review

Beauty, Beauty Review, Cruelty-FreeKristenComment

What happens when I run out of makeup? I buy more, except it’s usually different so I can review it.

What I Was Using: e.l.f. Complete Coverage Concealer (in Light)

What I’m Using Now: NYX Dark Circle Concealer

I really only use concealer for under my eyes, since I’m Italian and perpetually exhausted. I don’t really care about covering the other unflattering areas of my face. My e.l.f. concealer is awesome, but when I found this NYX concealer that’s made especially for under the eyes, I decided to give it a try.

At first, I was a little skeptical since I was confused as to how this concealer would be better for under my eyes than another one. When I opened the little thingy, the color was way darker than I expected, which kind of scared me. When I put it on my face, it still looked super dark, but once I stepped back it looked great and covered my circles almost completely. It lasted pretty well throughout the day too! I’m so happy I found this.

This works with my regular foundation and my BB cream too! I’ve also started wiping off the excess on my brush onto tiny zits, and they’re covered almost completely, so that’s a bonus.

Everyone tells me about how great NYX is, and after trying this, I could understand why. I would definitely love to try more NYX products in the future.
